Here's the quiet genius of a dog crossword: you already know all the words. Not because you studied — because dog words are everywhere. Which breeds made the cut?

Which size should I start with?
The 5×5 is a quick scratch behind the ears — six answers, a couple of minutes. The 7×7 brings the longer words into play (TERRIER, WALKIES, ZOOMIES) with 10–16 answers. The 9×9 is the full off-leash hour: around twenty answers for a proper sit-down solve. Your choice is remembered, and each size keeps its own no-repeat history.
I don't own a dog. Will I be lost?
Not remotely — that's rather the point. The clues lean on the dog knowledge everyone absorbs from cartoons, neighbors, and life: sled drivers shout MUSH, collars jingle, and the mail simply must be barked at. If you know why owners spell out W-A-L-K, you're qualified.
Are these good for kids?
Very. Dog words are concrete, kind, and fun to say out loud, and the crossing letters act as built-in hints so young solvers get confirmation instead of frustration. Confident readers around 7+ can solve alone; younger dog fans make a great clue-reading team with a grown-up. Everything is family-safe — the scariest word in the list is BATH.
